(AmericanPoliticalDaily.Com)- During an extensive interview with Fox News outside the Lincoln Memorial, President Donald Trump unleashed at the media and defended his hostility towards journalists. The president explained how media outlets from CNN to ABC have treated him “worse than Lincoln.”
As part of the town hall discussion, the president was shown a video from a voter in New Jersey who challenged the president’s tone.
“Please let go of those behaviors that are turning people away from you,” the woman said, in criticism of the president’s hostility and tone toward journalists.
Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, Fox anchors, asked the president what he thought about the comments, and Trump fought back.
“I am greeted with a hostile press, the likes of which no president has ever seen,” he said. “They always said Lincoln – nobody got treated worse than Lincoln. I believe I am treated worse,” he added.
This isn’t the first time the president has said it, either. President Trump told Sean Hannity during a Fox News interview six months ago that the press treats him worse than Abraham Lincoln.
Much of President Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 was built around the media being an enemy of the people, and the media repeatedly proved him right. Outlets claimed that he had a virtually 0% chance of winning the election, which he proved wrong on November 8, 2016.
President Trump told Baier and MacCallum that the media keep giving him “horrible, horrendous, biased questions” and that he feels like if he was kind to them, he would be “walked off stage.”
“I’m standing up there and instead of a normal question, the level of anger and hatred…I’ll look at them. I’ll say, ‘what is your problem?’”
President Trump also said that the media “might as well be in the Democrat party.”
Polls show he’s probably right. A 2019 poll by Gallup shows that Americans’ trust in the media dropped to just 41%, meaning significantly less than half the American population don’t trust the major outlets.
