Secret Service Trove Of Hundreds Of Thousands Of Documents Dumped On Democrats

( During an interview on MSNBC last Tuesday, January 6 select committee member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) complained about the US Secret Service dumping “hundreds of thousands of documents” on the committee that day after the committee had been asking for them for “almost a year.”

Lofgren also griped about the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General, Joseph Cuffari for ordering the Secret Service to stop any investigation into the deleted text messages sent around the time of the January 6 riot.

The DHS oversees the US Secret Service.

Lofgren said the committee’s dealings with the Secret Service reveal “troubling behavior patterns,” not just for the deleted text messages, but also for dumping those documents on the committee all at once, including documents the Secret Service knew the committee already received from another source.

Lofgren wasn’t the only one complaining. Committee chairman, Congressman Bennie Thompson, and House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney on Tuesday demanded IG Cuffari remove himself from the investigation into the deleted text messages and appoint someone else to lead a new inquiry.

The previous week, Secret Service Director James Murray said that the agency would cooperate fully with the select committee investigation.

The committee believes the missing text messages could be central to verifying the claims made by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson during her testimony that former President Trump attempted to commandeer the presidential SUV from Secret Service to drive it to the Capitol.

Both Trump and the Secret Service agents in the SUV have denied the claim.
