Oath Keeper’s Lawyer Is Arrested By Feds

(PresidentialInsider.com)- An attorney linked to the far-right group the Oath Keepers was arrested last week and charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice in relation to her involvement in the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

Kellye SoRelle, 43, was arrested Thursday morning in Junction, Texas, and charged with four counts, including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, and tampering with documents.

SoRelle, who volunteered with Lawyers for Trump after the 2020 election and is general counsel of the Oath Keepers, has defended members of the group charged in connection with the January 6 riot. However, unlike some Oath Keepers, she has not been charged with sedition.

She is accused of attempting to obstruct the Congressional certification of the Electoral College vote from December 2020 until January 2021. Prosecutors also allege that SoRelle entered the Capitol on January 6 attempting to stop the certification vote while urging others to do the same.

The final charge against her alleges that she destroyed evidence as well as persuaded or attempted to persuade others to withhold documents from the Grand Jury investigation into the January 6 riot.

SoRelle made her first appearance in an Austin, Texas federal court Thursday afternoon, appearing before Magistrate Judge Dustin Howell of the Western District of Texas.

The government did not request the judge detain SoRelle, so she was released from detention under certain conditions.

On Tuesday, SoRelle appeared in a virtual hearing before a DC District Court judge.
