(PresidentialInsider.com)- According to a chapter of an upcoming book that The Guardian obtained, Republican Utah Senator Mitt Romney reportedly encouraged President Joe Biden to run for president on the night of the midterm elections in 2018. The elections took place in 2018.
According to reports, the former Republican presidential nominee advised Vice President Joe Biden on the night he won his election to the Senate seat in Utah, “You have to run.”
According to The Guardian, the exchange will be detailed in a future work of nonfiction written by Gabriel Debenedetti and titled “The Long Alliance: The Imperfect Union of Joe Biden and Barack Obama.”
At one point, Biden connected with Mitt Romney, who had been handily elected to the Senate that night as a rare Republican opponent of Trump. Romney was running against Trump for the seat. According to The Guardian, the book states that “they were warm as Biden hailed Romney’s win.”
The book continues with the following passage: “Then Obama’s old opponent got to the point: You have to run, Romney insisted.”
The words “you have to run” were a close approximation of what was said, according to a note on sourcing from Debenedetti, which The Guardian highlighted. The message was based on the memories of many people.
After Barack Obama’s victory over Mitt Romney in the presidential election of 2012, Biden was chosen to serve as Obama’s vice president.
Romney cast his vote in favor of a conviction in 2020 against the then-President of the United States, Donald Trump, for alleged abuse of authority involving a call between Trump and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. A year later, Romney cast a vote to convict Trump once more for allegedly encouraging the disturbance at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Romney’s vote was decisive. In both instances, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump, but the Senate found him not guilty.
Romney is in good “supposed Republican” backstabbing company-
Mitt Romney is getting it right on Russia again. If America’s leaders had listened to his warnings in 2012 instead of mocking him, we would be in a far different place. Romney was the only Republican senator to vote to impeach Trump for slow-walking weapons to Ukraine.
