(PresidentialInsider.com)- In an interview with conservative news outlet Breitbart, Republican Ohio Rep. Warren Davidson said that fake “conservative” Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming is partly to blame for President Joe Biden’s horribly botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
Davidson, who is a U.S. Army veteran, said that Rep. Liz Cheney’s efforts to stall plans by former President Donald Trump to orchestrate the American withdrawal from Afghanistan meant that Joe Biden was ultimately left in charge of the withdrawal. He described how he has supported American withdrawal from Afghanistan since 2011, but said that the way it was carried out by the Biden administration was not correct. He described Biden’s plan so far as a “failure” – no kidding – and said that Cheney should be given much of the blame.
Cheney was one of a number of members of Congress who sponsored an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act in July 2020 that would restrict President Donald Trump from having full authority to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan, unless a number of very specific conditions were met first.
The “Afghanistan Partnership and Transparency Act,” which was the name of the amendments, set out plans to restrict the use of funds to reduce the number of American troops in Afghanistan under 8,000 unless the plans wouldn’t “compromise or otherwise negatively affect the ongoing counterterrorism mission” – a provision that was vague and left open to interpretation.
It also ensured that withdrawal could not occur unless it did not pose a risk for the expansion of a new Islamic terrorist group, or if it was not in the “best interest of United States national security” – another vague condition open to interpretation.
President Donald Trump long said that withdrawal would only go ahead if conditions on the ground seemed reasonable and that Americans in Afghanistan could be kept safe, but it was never good enough for Cheney and pro-war Democrats and Republicans in Congress.
If Cheney supported that measure, and stopped Trump from withdrawing safely last year, then isn’t she to blame for thousands of Americans being stuck in Afghanistan right now?
