Ilhan Omar Says She Doesn’t Regret Calling Israel And U.S. Terrorists

( In video remarks Ilhan Omar posted on Twitter in early June, the radical member of the “Squad” said that that there must be the “same level of accountability and justice” for victims of “crimes against humanity.” She then claimed that “unthinkable atrocities” have been committed by the United States, Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan and the Taliban.

Unsurprisingly, Omar’s lumping Israel and the US in with terrorist groups like Hamas and the Taliban sparked quite a backlash.

House Republicans demanded that Omar be stripped of her committee assignments (turnabout is fair play after all). But more surprisingly, Democrats also expressed outrage over her rhetoric. A dozen Democrat members of the House condemned Omar, accusing her of “deep-seated prejudice” and anti-Semitism.

Meanwhile, her fellow Squad members attacked the Democrats for condemning Omar’s remarks. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that she was “pretty sick & tired” of what she called “the constant vilification” of Omar. Black Lives Matter Congresswoman Cori Bush of Missouri, of course, blamed it on “anti-Blackness and Islamophobia.”

Nonetheless, due to the pressure coming from within the Democrat caucus, Omar released a statement “clarifying” her comments. In her statement, Omar claimed that she was not making a moral comparison between the terrorist groups and the US and Israel.

In reality, yes she was.

Of course Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat leadership were satisfied with Omar’s “clarification.” They issued a statement thanking the Congresswoman for her statement. And unlike Republicans who instantly caved to Democrat pressure over Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Speaker Pelosi declared the matter closed and announced that no further action would happen against Omar.

No doubt aware that she will never face any consequences for her inflammatory and bigoted rhetoric, last Tuesday on CNN’s The Lead, Ilhan Omar told host Jake Tapper that she did not regret making her initial comments.

Omar instead went into a bit of “whataboutism” – claiming that her colleagues “have engaged in Islamophobic tropes” and yet she hasn’t received an apology.

Omar knows she is untouchable. Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats will never hold her to the same standard the Democrats demand from a Republican like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene. Sure, Omar might cause a backlash, but ultimately, she knows Pelosi has her back.

All she has to do is issue a “clarification” and Pelosi will cave. Then she is free to go right back to saying everything that got her in trouble in the first place.

And on and on and on it will go.
