(PresidentialInsider.com)- The “Hinduphobic” resolution put up this week by US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar should be rejected, a US-based Hindu organization asked the US Congress on Friday. It claims that the resolution “unfairly and dishonestly” criticizes India’s human rights record.
The resolution, co-sponsored by Representatives Rashida Talib and Juan Vargas, calls on the State Department to implement the US Commission on International Religious Freedom’s (USCIRF) recommendations and designate India as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act.
The State Department is not required to abide by the USCIRF’s recommendations, and American administrations have disregarded them for the past few years.
According to HinduPact executive director Utsav Chakrabarti, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is clearly taking talking points from Jamaat-e-Islami and Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups with House Resolution 1196, which is extremely troubling to see from an elected official who has sworn an oath of loyalty to the United States Constitution.
Omar is a divisive Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota who has made anti-Semitic slurs in the past and has drawn criticism from around the world, according to HinduPact. She has demonstrated her anti-Hindu and anti-Indian prejudice before, and she will do so again, as evidenced by the fact that she has links to Pakistan.
Following a photo opportunity with former Prime Minister Imran Khan in April, Omar traveled to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK), it stated.
Omar is still quiet about the details of her April trip to Pakistan, which included meetings with prominent figures, including former Prime Minister Khan and trips to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India has denounced the US congresswoman’s trip to PoK, claiming it breached the nation’s sovereignty and showed her “narrow-minded” political views.
It’s okay if a politician like her wants to pursue her narrow-minded politics at home. However, seeking it infringes on our territorial integrity and sovereignty, making it ours. According to Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the ministry of external affairs, this visit is unacceptable.
