HISTORIC: Trump Pardons Feminist Icon Susan B. Anthony for Voting Illegally in 1872

(AmericanPoliticalDaily.com)- Earlier this week, President Donald Trump hinted that he would be pardoning somebody very important. Pundits speculated that the president could be looking at pardoning controversial whistleblower Edward Snowden, but on Tuesday, Trump announced that he would be pardoning Susan B. Anthony, the legendary American women’s rights activist who voted illegally in 1872.

President Trump made the announcement during a speech on Tuesday, rather putting a dampener on the weird and kind of tragic Democratic National Convention. Trump announced that he would sign a “full and complete pardon” for Susan B. Anthony during a White House event in which he and others commemorated the 100th anniversary of women achieving the right to vote.

“She was never pardoned,” President Trump told the press. “She was guilty of voting.”

It’s a hugely symbolic gesture, not just because it is forcing the Democrats to figure out a way of condemning the president for pardoning such an important social reformer, but also because President Trump is often accused by Democrats as being a misogynist. His actions as president, including this latest decision, repeatedly prove that to be untrue.

Anthony was arrested and convicted for voting illegally for the Republicans In Rochester, New York, in the 1872 presidential election. In a letter to suffragist activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Anthony wrote, “Well I have been & gone & done it!”

“If only now-all the women suffrage women would work to this end of enforcing the existing constitution-supremacy of national law over state law-what strides we might make this winter,” she said.

President Trump signed the proclamation and vowed to continue honoring American heroes, and paying tribute to the Americans who secured women’s right to vote.

How are the Democrats going to spin this one?
