(PresidentialInsider.com)- Disgraced head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci, who lied to Congress over whether the National Institutes of Health funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan, is facing new questions over what American scientists and government officials knew about the origins of the COVID-19 virus.
On Tuesday, Fox News’ Bret Baier explored the very early days of the COVID pandemic and displayed documents that appear to show Dr. Fauci warning early on that the virus could have originated from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, a laboratory in Wuhan where bat coronaviruses are regularly studied.
In the following months, however, the theory that the virus may have originated in a lab was widely described as a “conspiracy theory” by the left-wing press and Democrat politicians.
Baier revealed how on January 27 of 2020, Dr. Fauci was told that his agency was indirectly providing funding to the Wuhan lab through EcoHealth, an American non-profit group that would take grants from NIAID and then give those funds to other projects. The money was used for gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses, which involves the genetic modification of viruses to see if they can infect humans.
He also revealed how Dr. Kristian Anderson, a virologist, told Fauci in private that the features of the new virus appear to be engineered and that the genome of the virus is “inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory.”
It appears to show that Fauci not only lied about his agency funding gain-of-function research, but also deliberately covered up the fact that the virus could have been genetically engineered.
