(PresidentialInsider.com)- The group of left-wing pro-life activists who discovered five late-term babies among a box of aborted fetuses in March held a press conference outside the Washington DC Medical Examiner’s Office last week to demand a full investigation and autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The group, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) believes these five babies were victims of partial-birth abortion, a practice that is banned by federal law.
In March, PAAU recovered the box containing fetal parts that were being sent from the Washington Surgi-Clinic to Curtis Bay Medical Waste Facility for disposal. The activists routinely recover such remains to give the fetuses a proper funeral, but this particular box contained the remains of five third-trimester fetuses.
The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 bans abortions where the physician “deliberately or intentionally vaginally delivers a living, unborn child’s body” for the purpose of performing an abortion, usually by puncturing the back of the child’s skull and removing the brain.
In early April, Republican lawmakers had called on DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Department of Justice to investigate the five late-term abortions and demanded that autopsies be conducted on all five bodies.
Republican Senator Mike Lee and Republican Congressman Chris Smith also called on the FBI to investigate whether Washington Surgi-Clinic violated the law against partial-birth abortions in the deaths of these five late-term babies.
