Catholics Defend Trump After D.C. Archbishop Makes Politically Charged Attack Against President

VIDEO — Trump Fights Back in Fiery CPAC Speech

( Despite enjoying the support of the American people and winning a fair and democratic election, President Donald Trump continues to be attacked by representatives of the media, business, and now even…organized religion! Prominent Catholic figures came to the defense of President Trump this week after the Washington, D.C. Archbishop, Wilton Gregory, denounced him.

President Trump hit the headlines when he visited a shrine to Pope John Paul II earlier this week, prompting the archbishop to attack the president.

“I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles, which call us to defend the rights of all people even those with whom we might disagree,” he said in a statement.

“Saint Pope John Paul II was an ardent defender of the rights and dignity of human beings…His legacy bears vivid witness to that truth. He certainly would not condone the use of tear gas and other deterrents to silence, scatter or intimidate them for a photo opportunity in front of a place of worship and peace.”

The archbishop’s comments reference a debunked lie made by the Democrats that President Donald Trump used teargas on peaceful protesters to clear the way for his visit to St. John’s Episcopal Church. Trump paid tribute to the church after a night of violence in Washington, D.C. that saw protesters set the church on fire. It prompted vitriolic responses from the Democrats, including the suggestion that Trump teargassed peaceful protesters – a lie that was exposed by police officers on the scene who deny the use of teargas. The White House Correspondent for RealClearPolitics also reported how protesters were warned three times over loudspeaker to clear the area. When they refused to leave, force was used, but no teargas.

Catholic commentators and public figures denounced the archbishop’s unfair comments as un-Christian. Phil Lawler, a Catholic journalist and author published a column titled “Baffling and Reprehensible” in which he describes the lies told by the archbishop and how it is divisive and not representative of Christian values. He explained how the archbishop didn’t check the facts.

Edward N. Peters, a professor at the Sacred Heart Seminary of Archdiocese of Detroit also tweeted criticism of Archbishop Gregory, saying his comments were “devoid of any sense of Christian sentiment.”

Isn’t it a sad state of affairs when even Christian leaders allow the far left to dictate their view of the president? This wouldn’t have happened to Obama after one of his (many) drone airstrikes!
