(PresidentialInsider.com)- In her daily press briefing on June 3, in addition to fielding the all-important question on whether the Bidens would ever be adopting a cat, Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the explosive trove of emails to and from Dr. Anthony Fauci released by Buzzfeed two days earlier.
And much like the white-knighting corporate media, Psaki downplayed their significance and defended the embattled Fauci, calling him an “undeniable asset” in the country’s response to the pandemic.
What’s more, Psaki claimed that it was not that advantageous to “re-litigate the substance of emails from 17 months ago.”
But in order to “re-litigate,” one must already have litigated. And with regard to these emails, no such “litigation” has taken place.

This kind of “it was a long time ago so it doesn’t matter now” deflection isn’t new for Obama-era flacks like Psaki.
In an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier in May of 2014, Obama’s former National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor objected to questions about the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi Libya answering, “Dude, this was like two years ago. We’re still talking about the most mundane thing.”
It is undeniable that many of the revelations found within the more than 3,000 pages of documents call into question Fauci’s motivations for dismissing the lab leak theory out of hand. The emails also make it clear that, while publicly claiming there was no evidence for the lab leak, Fauci and his team knew better.
Psaki shrugging off the explosive revelations in these emails because they are from “17 months ago” is hardly surprising.
Fauci has been the face of the government’s COVID response since the beginning. He has been celebrated and feted in both the news and entertainment media. During the 2020 campaign Joe Biden repeatedly elevated Fauci’s importance. The day before the election, Biden tweeted “We need a president who actually listens to experts like Dr. Fauci.”
After the election, in a December interview with Jake Tapper, Biden said he would only take the vaccine after Anthony Fauci declared it safe.

A few days after that, President-elect Biden declared Fauci “one of our foremost experts on combatting viruses.”
Any potential damage to Anthony Fauci’s reputation due to these emails will not be limited to Anthony Fauci. It will also blow back on both the media and this White House as well.
